How to get the horse on the van
How to get the horse into the van is one of our suggestions but, if you want, you can suggest us a piece of advice that you would like to read by writing an email to info@clubcavalloitalia.it Thank you.
How to get the horse on the van
Getting the horse on the van is not one of the simplest things and to do this you need to keep in mind its past, the environment where it lives, its character, the current moment and be wise and prudent, respecting the sensitivity of those who are forced to do something against his will.

How to get the horse on the van. Remember…
Remember that, when we arrive, we will have the same problems but increased by the nervousness accumulated by the horse during the journey but, above all, remember that the horse is afraid of all new situations, wherever they happen, and it can react in a disjointed and dangerous way.
In the horse that is about to be transported, an elevated heart rate was detected, especially in moments of loading, because it is entering a dark environment, with a strange and peculiar smell, narrow and with no way out, that is the worst that could exist for a sufficient degree of comfort to a horse.
To all this we must unfortunately add the briskness, often aggressive of those who have to get it on the vehicle, just when the horse would need to be pampered and reassured, with unpleasant and harmful consequences for both and for the whole journey.
How to get the horse on the van. Instead…
Instead, in convincing the horse to get on the vehicle, it is necessary to be patient, tenacious and calm and, with good training, can get to climb alone and without any effort on the vehicle.
But why does the horse behave like this? The horse fears all that it does not know, all that is new and entering into something unknown and new puts it in great apprehension.
The van is generally quite dark and does not allow the horse to see what awaits him and any dangers.
How to get the horse on the van. The ramp
The ascent ramp of horse transport van is another obstacle because it is perceived as unsafe or as a chasm that could swallow it, especially if the color is dark or metal, and is often covered with litter, which facilitates the ascent and descent of the horse.

That being said, it is easy to understand why getting on the van is the last thing the horse would like to do and it doesn’t just happen the first time, but often also with subsequent transports because the horse associates the climb on the van with the fatigue and traumas of the previous transport and will be rather reluctant to get on the vehicle but, with good training, the horse can get to overcome any fear.
Can anything be done to make it easier for the horse to get on the means of transport?
Sure! And with a few, small and simple steps.
How to get the horse on the van. The van
First of all we make the interior of the van as bright as possible, opening the windows or using artificial lights, and position the ramp up as stable as possible, so that it does not move and emits the least possible noise by placing straw under the ramp and, above, of the litter because the horse knows it well and will face it with safety, avoiding even the feeling of being on a soft ground and therefore very dangerous.
But the best way to get the horse on a van is good training.
Often the trainer spends a lot of time teaching the horse complicated exercises but does not find the time to teach to enter the van, avoiding to associate the van with the pain, which arises when the horse climbs for the first time on a van to be transported, suffering all transportation discomforts, including abrasions and bruises.
So the horse will associate the idea of getting on the van with pain and will not be happy to go back up.
If, on the other hand, the first experiences will not be linked to transport, the horse will understand that there is nothing to fear and the subsequent times it will enter much more easily.
How to get the horse on the van. The foals

The training will be much easier if the horse will be trained from foal to transport: by raising the mother on the van the foal will follow it.
This method works both because the foal follows its mother wherever it is because, observing its mother, it sees that there is no danger in getting on the van.
In adulthood it is necessary to become familiar with the vehicle because the means of transport is frightening if it is not known.
So the horse will have to spend a lot of time turning around the vehicle, sniffing it and getting familiar, with the calm and quiet trainer at his side to let him know that there is no fear.
How to get the horse on the van. The latest advices
We can also use appetizing food to bring the horse closer and let him take even more confidence with the vehicle, placing the food first at the start of the ramp and waiting until the horse eats it and continuing to position the food higher and higher on the ramp, right into the vehicle.
With a lot of patience, and several sessions, this method is quite effective for teaching the horse that he must not fear anything from the means of transport and in this page find our advice on how to travel with the horse.
