Horseback riding in Camargue, between flamingos, sea, bulls and colors.
Discovering the beauty of this small portion of land on horseback on the edge of the sea is an emotion that we suggest to those who, like us, love horses.
The best time to visit the Camargue on horseback, a strip of land consisting of 75,000 hectares of sand, marshes, ponds and rice fields, is between April and May or in the autumn but never beyond the month of October, when temperatures drop a lot.
The Camargue is an immense park of wild and uncontaminated nature, a riot of colors and untouched glimpses, in which man seems to still be a temporary guest.
Horseback Riding in Camargue. Two tips.
For your horseback riding in Camargue you could wear a garment from our Clothing Collection: the embroidered Club Cavallo Italia brand will let everyone know that you are part of a special world, the magical world of those who love horses.
And don’t forget our Bags Collection. It is handmade by master leather craftsmen of long tradition with the best Italian leather and you will surely find the bag to carry things with you.
Horseback riding in Camargue
Camargue is one of the areas where horseback riding is a dream.
You will riding among pink flamingos that calmly walk in the water at the bright red sunset, indomitable bulls that graze on the moor and white horses, the horses of the Camargue, that live in the wild.
This handkerchief of nature amazes and fascinates, swept by the impetuous wind and burned by a fiery sun, which splits the earth and lights up the colors.
If you don’t have your own horse and if you have girls or boys with you in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer we recommend the Ecurie de l’Auberge Cavaliere du Pont des Bannes.
If you are all adults, always in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, you can contact Trott Camargue – Maximus Organization and Promenade à Cheval La Marisma.
Horseback riding in Camargue. What to eat… after
After horseback riding in Camargue you can taste dishes based mainly on the meat of bulls bred in the area.
One of the specialties that you will find in all restaurants is Gardianne De Taureau, a tasty stew of bull meat marinated in wine and cooked over a low heat for several hours, generally served with rice but, of course, each restaurant has its own recipe.
Among the most consumed fish there are mussels, seafood and cockles.
Another local specialty is olives, often accompanied by anchovies and capers, while among the most popular cheeses there is the chevre tomino, a goat cheese served on crispy toasted bread with honey and a drizzle of oil.
Horseback riding in Camargue. Where to sleep.
La Camargue offers many solutions where to spend the night.
We recommend the Domaine des Clos hotel in Chemin du Mas de la Tour, the Mas Les Cabidoules hotel in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the Mas de La Fouque hotel, also in Saintes-Maries-de- la-Mer with wellness center but we are sure that you will find the hotel that suits your needs and those who travel with you also along the D570 road that leads to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
Horseback riding in Camargue. What to do next.
The Camargue kidnaps the heart for the harsh nature of its nature and its inhabitants, still deeply tied to traditions and who prefer mosquitoes to tourists.
It is not a rare case but it is normal to come across old women in traditional costumes, in the guardians with black felt hat, floral shirt and neck scarf and gypsies in their caravans and guitar in hand.
In Camargue everything takes place according to the relentless but slow rhythms of the natural cycle, from the breeding of cattle to the cultivation of rice, from the collection of salt in the salt pans to fishing in the ponds.
Visit the center of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and climb the roof of its cathedral at sunset to see, in all its beauty, this land of water lying at your feet that takes on unique nuances and, afterwards, organizes a fun evening picnic on the beach.
Buy some typical delicacies and go to the beach, obviously accompanying the food with one of the Camargue’s “Des Sable” wines, while the sun ignites the sky with a thousand shades of red.
You can also watch one of the bullfights held at the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer Arena, absolutely non-violent because no bulls are hurt and have nothing to do with the Spanish ones.
In these bullfights the bull is not killed and the whole thing consists in an attempt to take away the cockades that are placed on his head.
On Horseback Riding on… another proposal
After horseback riding in Camargue, we suggest you visit the Hordeback Riding in Amafi Coast, one of the most beautiful regions in Italy.
